Dortches Baptist Church (Rocky Mount, NC) is seeking a Minister of Education: Children and Youth

Responsibilities include administering, planning, and overseeing spiritual needs and events for children and youth 6 – 12 grades.

We are seeking a leader who will be able to communicate and implement new ministry ideas and activities, embracing Cooperative Baptist principles, and utilizing an already established volunteer base. Candidates should be willing to provide weekly ministry, as well as quarterly and monthly ministry and events for Youth and Children. Candidates should be positive, energetic, charismatic, tech-savvy, and eager to work with church staff and volunteers.

This is a part-time, paid position, which could grow into a full-time position. Salary based on experience interview, and references are required.

 

Duties:

  • Provide spiritual mentorship, counseling, and guidance to young people, helping them develop and deepen their faith and relationship with God.
  • Prepare and deliver Bible studies, and other religious teachings tailored to the needs and interests of young people, addressing relevant topics and challenges they face. (Wednesday night youth and Sunday morning Sunday school)
  • Lead and organize various youth ministry activities, such as youth group meetings, retreats, camps, mission trips, service projects, and social events. Create a safe and welcoming environment for young people to grow spiritually and build relationships with their peers.
  • Build relationships with individual young people and provide one-on-one discipleship and mentoring, helping them navigate challenges, make good decisions, and grow in their faith.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers who assist in youth ministry activities. Delegate tasks and responsibilities, ensuring a well-functioning team to support the youth program.
  • Develop strategies to reach out to young people in the community, connect with local schools or colleges, and actively engage young people who may not be affiliated with the church.
  • Collaborate with other church staff members, including pastors, administrators, and other ministry leaders, to coordinate efforts and ensure alignment with the overall church vision. Communicate with parents or guardians to keep them informed about youth activities and programs.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to the youth ministry, such as budgeting, event planning, record-keeping, and maintaining communication channels (e.g., website, social media).
  • Continuously seek personal growth and development through ongoing education, training, and spiritual formation to better serve the needs of young people.

 

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in theology, ministry, or a related field (preferred but not required)
  • Prior experience working with youth in a ministry or leadership capacity
  • Strong biblical knowledge and theological understanding
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to relate to and connect with young people
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping young individuals grow in their faith
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate others

  • Musically or athletically inclined (Praise band, youth choir, basketball leader, etc.)
  • Able or willing to fill some Associate Pastor roles (occasional preaching, lead announcements, etc.)

  • Rocky Mount, NC 27804: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

License/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
