We are a mid-sized, multi-generational, Southern Baptist congregation seeking a minister who is called to lead in worship, who has a growing and vibrant relationship with Jesus, and loves to produce quality music that honors God. Our current program incorporates a blended style of musical offerings consisting of a sanctuary choir, small orchestra, handbells, praise band, vocal ensembles, and age-graded choirs (children/student/senior adult). Qualified candidate should be able work with pastor and staff to plan and lead worship on Sunday mornings in addition to special seasonal worship events. Although this position will also include executive leadership responsibilities, it is first and foremost a pastoral position.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work in close coordination with other staff members under the leadership and administration of the Senior Pastor, to achieve the goals of Christ and His church.
  • Supervise/lead entire music program of the church.
  • Enlist workers as needed.
  • Oversee all areas of the music & worship ministry, including the music ministries for children, students, adults and senior adults.
  • Work with Weekday Preschool to provide music education.
  • Plan music for all regularly scheduled worship services in coordination with Senior Pastor and other ministerial staff.
  • Direct, coordinate, and supervise the activities of the church organist, pianist, instrumentalists.
  • Direct Sanctuary Choir.
  • Enlist choir members and recruit participants in First Baptist Church music programs.
  • Maintaining all musical instruments and sound equipment.
  • Coordinate and secure musical material with music leaders.
  • Arrange training for and give encouragement to soloists and instrumentalists for use in worship services.
  • Maintain music library.
  • Outline, develop and manage an expense budget for music activities to be presented annually to the Stewardship Committee.
  • Participate in outreach and inreach in coordination with other ministerial staff.
  • Provide pastoral care ministry to church members, including members of the choir and their families, in coordination with other ministerial staff.
  • Reach out to the community through worship and performance opportunities.
  • Be available to conduct weddings and funerals in consultation with Senior Pastor.
  • Communicate all audio and visual support needs with the Media Team in a timely manner.
  • Lead the congregation, choir, and worship team to use their voices & instruments to worship God consistently and effectively.
  • Be open to change in the shifting of responsibilities as growth and ministry develop.
  • Ensure that all musical & technical aspects of the services are well-planned & rehearsed in order to maintain a distraction-free worship environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate (Bachelor’s degree required/Masters preferred) from an accredited college or university with a major in a music related field. Preferably a seminary degree with related work experience.
  • Maintain and foster a healthy spiritual walk to be able to lead people with spiritual maturity and wisdom.
  • Excellent worship leadership abilities.
  • Outstanding technical music expertise (i.e choral and instrumental skills, etc.).
  • Mature and confident in one’s own faith.
  • Evidences the characteristics of 1 Timothy 3 and possesses a clear and distinct call from God to ministry.
