Overview
First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, a church in the heart of the city with a strong Kingdom mission, is prayerfully seeking the right Christian leader to serve as our Youth/Student Minister.
This is a 20-hour-per-week interim position with the possibility of becoming full-time (if desired by both the church and the candidate).
Currently, church members are filling the role of Youth Pastor.
The church has a small but promising youth group in need of shepherding, biblical growth, and leadership to strengthen and expand this vital ministry.
Primary Responsibilities (Grades 6 and up)
Lead and shepherd youth grades 6 and. up
Teach Junior/Senior High Sunday School on Sundays or coordinate substitute teachers when unavailable. ? Time commitment: Approximately 1.5 hours on Sundays (9:00–10:30 a.m.).
Plan and lead one weekly youth gathering.
Currently Wednesday nights (approximately 2 hours/week); an alternate night may be negotiated if the candidate lives out of town.
Plan and lead approved youth activities outside the church, securing Youth Council approval and appropriate volunteers.
Accompany youth on off-campus activities or arrange approved substitute/additional volunteers.
Maintain regular communication with current youth, prospective youth (grades 6 and up), and their families.
Develop and begin implementing a growth plan—alongside volunteers—to strengthen and expand the youth ministry, particularly for grades 6 and up.
Plan and execute youth activities with the goal of leading students, through the work of the Holy Spirit, toward confession of faith and baptism.
Notes: This position does not include preaching, pastoral duties, evangelism, counseling, or mission work. If the candidate has special training or gifts in these areas, this is considered a plus and may lead to additional responsibilities if qualified.
Personal Accountability & Qualifications The Youth/Student Minister must:
Avoid favoritism and intentionally include visitors and newcomers.
Be a confessing Christian who has been water baptized following a personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ.
Demonstrate transparency in word and deed.
Speak truth, show integrity, and set a Christ-like example.
Be willing to confess personal sin and pursue correction and growth.
Live a life marked by increasing godliness and holiness.
Make every effort to become an active part of the body of First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount. ? Exceptions (e.g., seminary students living outside the area) may be discussed and agreed upon.
Attend staff meetings in person or online when possible (schedule permitting; negotiable with the Senior Pastor).
Hold a valid driver’s license and be eligible to be added to the church’s vehicle insurance to drive the FBCRM 9-passenger van.
Successfully complete and pass a nationwide criminal background check.
Compensation: Pay is negotiable and based on credentials and experience.
