East Valdese Baptist Church is a multiplying church in Valdese, NC. We are a multi-generational church that exists to bring glory to God by making disciples through the Foothills region of NC. We are located in Burke County and one hour from Asheville, Charlotte and NC ski slopes, 2 1/2 hours from Raleigh/Durham and only 4 1/2 hrs from the beach so there are so many fun and exciting things to do with your family.
Position Overview
The Pastor or Director of Kids Ministry is a full-time spiritual and organizational leader who directly leads the Kid’s ministry (K–5th grade) and provides support, resources and oversight to the Nursery/PreK ministry (birth-PreK). This role is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, Christ-centered environment where children are encountering Jesus, equipping ministry team members to serve effectively, and partnering with parents in the spiritual development of their children.
Churchwide responsibilities
The Kids Ministry Pastor/Director serves as a member of the church staff and collaborates fully in providing leadership to global church health and growth. If this person is a pastor, he will serve on the Church Leadership Team comprised of Senior Pastor, Pastors and Servant Leaders (deacons).
Direct Report
The Kids Ministry Pastor/Director will report to the Senior Pastor.
Primary Objectives
- Ensure each encounter in EVBC’s kids ministry is welcoming to both members and guests.
- Provide safe and engaging environments for children to discover and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Equip and encourage Kid’s ministry team to serve with excellence and joy.
- Support and equip parents in their role as the primary disciplers of their children.
- Provide encouragement, resources, recruiting, scheduling and training to the Nursery/PreK Coordinator (part time staff) and ministry team.
- Collaborate with church leadership to expand the impact of kid’s ministry in the community.
Responsibilities
- Ministry Leadership & Vision
- Develop and implement a vibrant, age-appropriate kids ministry strategy aligned with the church’s vision.
- Plan and oversee weekly Kids worship, Sunday School and teaching experiences (Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights).
- Organize and direct special events such as VBS, holiday programs/events, family nights, outreach events, and camp.
- Develop a young leader program that involves kids in discovering and leading with their spiritual gifts, talents, skills and abilities in age-appropriate ministry.
- Partner with the Senior Pastor and leadership team to engage the kid’s ministry within the broader vision of the church.
- Volunteer Recruitment & Training
- Recruit, train, schedule, and oversee volunteers and leaders for all the kid’s ministry programs.
- Provide encouragement, appreciation, and ongoing development opportunities for volunteers.
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and Christlike service among volunteers.
- Recruit, schedule and train the Nursery/PreK ministry in collaboration with the Nursery/PreK Coordinator.
- Curriculum & Program Management
- Select, adapt, or develop biblically sound and engaging curriculum.
- Prepare and distribute materials and resources for weekly programs.
- Regularly evaluate and refine ministry programs for effectiveness and growth.
- Family Engagement
- Communicate consistently with parents about ministry events, lessons, and resources.
- Equip parents with tools and encouragement for faith formation at home.
- Provide opportunities for families to connect and grow together.
- Administrative & Team Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of children, families, and volunteers (attendance, background checks, allergies).
- Manage ministry budget and resources responsibly.
- Attend weekly staff meetings, retreats, and contribute to church-wide planning.
- Submit monthly report to Leadership Team.
- Ensure all ministry activities comply with State and Church child protection and safety policies.
Qualifications
- Spiritual
- Clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him.
- Demonstrates a passion for discipling children and supporting families.
- Commitment to participate in the community and activities of EVBC.
- Professional
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
- 2-5 years of experience in children’s ministry, education, or related field preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to recruit, train, and lead volunteers effectively.
- Gifted in teaching, creativity, and connecting with children and families.
- Basic understanding of child development and age-appropriate teaching strategies.
- Proficiency with relevant technology (email, scheduling tools, presentation software).
Benefits and Working Conditions
- Full-time position with salary that is commensurate with experience. This is a tax-sheltered position that includes housing allowance.
- First year includes 2 weeks (10 workdays) vacation plus 9 paid holidays and 1 day off (Friday) per week.
- Workdays are Mondays-Thursdays, Sundays, Wednesday nights, some evenings, and special events.
- A cell phone stipend is provided
- Active participation required, including the ability to lift and move materials.
