Executive Pastor Job Description

Woodland Baptist Church, a community of “People Following Jesus Christ,” is seeking an experienced and visionary Executive Pastor. In this leadership role, the Executive Pastor will partner closely with the Senior Pastor and church leadership to manage staff, oversee daily operations, direct financial stewardship, and maintain our church facilities. 

The ideal candidate will blend strategic administrative management with a deep commitment to biblical teaching and discipleship, ensuring that all aspects of church life advance the gospel and foster a welcoming, vibrant community.

The Executive Pastor is expected to:

  • Lead the operations of the church to align with the overall mission of Woodland Baptist Church.
  • Enlist, equip and empower staff and volunteers to aid in fulfilling this mission.
  • Serve alongside the ministry leaders to identify and implement the ministry priorities that best accomplish the mission of the church.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Staff Leadership & Development
    • Recruit, train, and mentor ministry staff and volunteers, nurturing a culture of servant leadership that reflects our commitment to following Jesus.
    • Participate in regular staff meetings, performance reviews, provide professional development opportunities, and promote clear, consistent communication across all teams.
    • Work collaboratively with ministry leaders to support staff in fulfilling their roles and advancing the church’s mission.
  • Operations Management
    • Oversee the daily administrative, operational, and communications functions of the church, ensuring efficient systems and policies that align with Woodland’s values.
    • Coordinate scheduling, program planning, and special events to support worship services and community outreach.
    • Implement best practices in operational management, including technology solutions such as the current church management software (Realm), that enhance the church’s impact and effectiveness.
    • Work in conjunction with core committees to achieve ministry goals.
  • Financial Oversight
    • Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with the finance committee and church leadership.
    • Ensure responsible stewardship of resources through sound financial practices, transparent reporting to the Finance Committee and congregation, and strategic planning.
    • Work in conjunction with the Finance Committee and other appropriate groups and individuals to identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost savings, and sustainable financial practices that support Woodland’s mission.
  • Facilities Management
    • Oversee the maintenance, security, and enhancement of church facilities, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for congregants and visitors.
    • Coordinate facility improvements and manage relationships with vendors and contractors.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Strategic Ministry & Pastoral Leadership
    • Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and other leaders to develop and implement the church’s strategic vision.
    • Assist fellow staff and ministry leaders in providing care and counseling for staff and congregation members, fostering a supportive and faith-filled community.
    • Represent the church in community engagements, partnerships, and outreach initiatives that advance Woodland’s mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A robust personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the gospel.
  • Proven leadership experience in ministry, church administration, or non-profit management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff, oversee operations, direct financial resources, and maintain facilities effectively.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative spirit with a passion for strategic planning and a heart for discipleship.

EXPECTATIONS

  • The Executive Pastor and family (if applicable) shall become members of Woodland Baptist Church
  • This role requires a balance of office-based work and on-site oversight at our church facilities.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to support worship services, community events, and staff development.
  • A commitment to upholding the welcoming, community-oriented spirit of Woodland Baptist Church, where every person is valued.
  • The Executive Pastor is expected to follow the guidelines of the personnel policy.
