Youth Pastor Ministry Responsibilities

  • Personal
    1. God first
      1. Maintain a growing relationship with God through the study of HIs word, a commitment to prayer, evangelism, and faithful worship (Colossians 1:16b, Romans 11:36, Psalm 147:11, Romans 6:13, Mark 12:30)
    2. Family Second
      1. Maintain a growing relationship with his family, understanding that they come second only to his personal relationship with God and committing himself to being physically and emotionally present and active in their lives (I Corinthians 11:3, 1 Timothy 3:5, 1 Timothy 5:8)
    3. Ministry Third
      1. Develop and maintain a good relationship with the church body and community, understanding that the effectiveness of his ministry depends on the level of his integrity-personally, socially, and spiritually. (I Corinthians 12:12-31, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9) 
  • Administrative
    1. Keep regular office hours
    2. Prepare monthly report to share with deacons
    3. Prepare annual youth budget for consideration by the finance committee
    4. Periodically review budget needs with Senior Pastor
    5. Supply pertinent and timely information to the staff for the purpose of promotion and communication of information
    6. Works under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and, in his absence, the Deacon Body
  • Church Ministry
    1. Function as a team member within the church leadership and ministerial staff
    2. As a part of the ministerial staff, share in leading congressional worship
    3. Support, participate, contribute, and share in the total life and fellowship of the church through attendance, encouragement, and faithful financial stewardship
    4. Participate in hospital and crisis ministry as needed
    5. Meet regularly with the other ministerial staff to cultivate and maintain a close working relationship
    6. Be on call to preach should the Senior Pastor be unavailable to fill the pulpit
  • Responsibilities Specific to Youth 
    1. Envision, develop, and implement a comprehensive ministry for youth comparing evangelism, worship, discipleship, fellowship, and religious service
      1. Communicate plan to leadership team with timely notice, particularly when leaders are expected to facilitate small group discussion, assist with a lesson, and/or teach a lesson
      2. Communicate plans to families with timely notice (i.e. quarterly)
      3. Schedule monthly meetings with youth leadership team
    2. Evangelism
      1. Model and promote an evangelistic spirit
      2. Educate and lead students in sharing their faith
      3. Plan and promote activities that target un-churched youth 
      4. Plan, coordinate, and carry out community outreach events for the youth, and collaborate with established local ministries
      5. Establish and maintain a church presence in our local schools and community 
    3. Worship
      1. Provide opportunities for age-appropriate worship in collaboration with pastoral staff
        1. Involve students in churchwide worship functions 
    4. Discipleship 
      1. Actively lead, engage, and teach within the youth ministry throughout the week
      2. Teach and preach in collaboration with the Senior Pastor
      3. Model and promote a Christ-centered life
      4. Assist the Sunday School Director in selecting age appropriate curriculum and leadership in Youth Sunday School
      5. Assist the Nominating Committee in selecting qualified, called, and willing Youth volunteers
      6. Provide weekly Bible study opportunity for the development of spiritual growth
      7. Offer spiritual guidance and counseling for students, their families, and youth leaders
      8. Work in partnership with Senior Pastor to implement programs for 18-25 year old men and women
